Bio-Sensor Method
Our goal at Kylemore is to raise our puppies with a “head start”. Our work begins with the health and care of our breeding terriers, continuing with excellent care through the neo-natal period and then the work begins with the puppies, at just three days of age, using early stimulation and socialization.
Scientific studies have proven that early stimulation and socialization can result in healthier, smarter and well adjusted dogs. The U.S. Military developed a program called “Bio-Sensor” in order to improve the performance of dogs used for military purposes. They basically deduced that early neurological stimulation, during very specific time periods early in life, could have lasting effects on dogs. Later this became known as the “Super Dog Program”.
The first period of rapid neurological growth and development begins on the 3rd day of life and lasts through the 16th day. The following five exercises (detailed below) will be performed during this time period, causing the neurological system to kick into gear earlier than it normally would. The exercises require that each pup is handled individually for three to five seconds once a day. Puppies stimulated using the Bio-Sensor method were found to be more active in learning situations and calmer and less stressed in problem-solving situations than non-stimulated pups.

1. Tactile Stimulation: Holding Jack Russell pup in one hand, the handler gently tickles the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip.
2. Head Held Erect: Using both hands, the puppy is held straight up so that its head is directly above its tail.
3. Head Pointed Down: Holding Jack Russell pup firmly with both hands, the head is pointed downward so that its head and body are pointing toward the ground.
4. Supine Position: Holding puppy so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands, the pup is allowed to either sleep or struggle.
5. Thermal Stimulation: Use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for five minutes. Place puppy on the towel, feet down. Do not restrain the pup from moving.
